A rare pangolin weighing 3.3 kilograms was safely rescued near Phakhanakata pond in Baludunguri village under Dabri Panchayat, Khariar forest range of Nuapada district.Thanks to the quick alertness of local youths and the timely intervention of the Forest Department, the endangered animal was saved without harm.According to reports, villagers spotted the pangolin roaming near the pond on Thursday. Youths Gopal Tandi, Tikchan Majhi, Yashobanta Majhi, and Mohan Tandi immediately informed the Khariar Forest Department. Acting swiftly, Forest Guards Sudam Kumar Bag and Paramananda Tandi reached the spot. With active cooperation from villagers, the team managed to rescue the animal safely without causing any injury.Following the rescue, the pangolin was taken to Khariar Veterinary Hospital for a health check. Veterinary doctors confirmed that the animal weighed approximately 3.3 kg and was in normal, healthy condition.Later, the rescued pangolin was released back into its natural habitat deep inside the forest. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Aziz Khan stated that the release was carried out to ensure the animal’s safety and survival in its ecological environment.The villagers’ awareness and sensitivity towards wildlife conservation have drawn widespread appreciation. Their prompt action not only protected a rare species but also highlighted the importance of community participation in safeguarding biodiversity.
