Nayagarh: Husband Allegedly Kills Wife Over Dowry By Tying Her Hands And Throwing Her Into Pond

Nayagarh: In a chilling incident reported from Beladwara village under Odagaon police limits in Nayagarh district, a man has been accused of killing his wife over dowry and dumping her body in a pond with her hands tied.The deceased has been identified as Tapaswini Sahu.According to allegations, the accused husband killed her following a dowry-related dispute and later threw her into a pond inside their farmhouse. Police have detained the husband and launched a detailed investigation.Tapaswini, a resident of Hariharpur village under Saranakul police station, had married Baksi of Sadar police station area in 2020. The couple has a 5-year-old daughter. Family members allege that Tapaswini was subjected to harassment by her in-laws over dowry demands.The matter had earlier led to a compromise at the police station in 2024. At the time of marriage, Baksi was working in a private company in Bhubaneswar. He later quit the job and started living with his wife and daughter at a farmhouse in Beladwara.The family claims there were frequent quarrels between the couple there as well.As per the complaint, after a fight on Thursday night, Baksi allegedly assaulted Tapaswini, tied her hands and threw her into the pond inside the farmhouse. He later called Tapaswini’s mother late at night and claimed that she had jumped into the pond and died.On receiving information, Odagaon fire services personnel reached the spot, fished out the body from the pond and took it to hospital. Odagaon police have detained Baksi and further investigation is underway.
