Fire erupts during EV charging, 8 vehicles gutted at garage in Bhubaneswar

A fire broke out at a garage in Anand Vihar near Nakagate in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, in the early hours of Monday, gutting eight vehicles. The blaze reportedly started while an electric vehicle (EV) was being charged, with a short circuit suspected to have triggered the fire.The vehicles inside the garage included one CNG car, five EVs and two petrol-powered vehicles. The flames quickly spread to the other vehicles, leaving them completely damaged.After receiving information, the Tamando Fire Services team reached the spot within a short time and immediately began firefighting operations. The personnel focused on containing the flames and preventing them from spreading to nearby areas.The intensity of the fire prompted the firefighters to use foam compound while battling the blaze. After sustained efforts, the fire was brought under control.Short Circuit Suspected.A short circuit in the EV that was being charged is suspected to have caused the fire. The blaze then spread to the other vehicles parked inside the garage.The incident caused extensive damage to the vehicles, though no casualty has been reported so far. The exact extent of the financial loss is yet to be ascertained.Fire officials are expected to assess the site to determine the circumstances that led to the fire.
