Paralakhemundi: A 48-year-old farmer died after being bitten by a snake while working in his agricultural field in Odisha’s Gajapati district, sources said Tuesday.The deceased was identified as Banamali of Singipur village under Gurandi police limits.Banamali was cutting grass Monday evening in his half-acre farmland when the snake bit him, according to reports. He returned home and informed his family before being rushed to the district headquarters hospital in Paralakhemundi, the sources added.As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Srikakulam in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh for advanced treatment. However, he died before reaching the hospital. Banamali supported his family by cultivating his own land and working as a daily wage labourer elsewhere. He was reportedly the family’s sole earning member, the sources informed.Following his death, villagers have urged the government and district administration to provide financial assistance to the bereaved family.
