27 Candidates File Nominations for Various Posts; Students Show Enthusiasm After Nearly Eight YearsKaranjia, October 9 (Dinesh Kumar): Enthusiasm is running high on the campus of Karanjia Autonomous College following the announcement of students’ union elections in various colleges across Odisha by the state government. The election notification for Karanjia Autonomous College was issued on October 7, and the nomination process for various posts began today as the first phase of the election.
A total of 27 candidates filed their nomination papers for different posts. Following scrutiny, 19 nominations were declared valid.
Senior professor Dr. Abani Kanta Das is serving as the Election Officer, while senior professor Chintamani Satpathy has been appointed as the Observer to oversee the election process.
According to the college authorities, two candidates are contesting for the post of President, three for Vice-President, two for General Secretary, two for Assistant General Secretary, four for Secretary and two for Assistant Secretary. In addition, one candidate each is contesting for the first-year undergraduate and second-year undergraduate representative positions, while two candidates are in the fray for the third-year undergraduate Science representative post.
The candidates whose nominations were declared valid include Om Prakash Sethi and Sanjay Kumar Deogam for President; Suhani Saha, Surendra Nath Munda and Sujit Kumar Pradhan for Vice-President; Satyabrata Majhi and Bijayini Barik for General Secretary; and Dibya Ranjan Sahu and Pankaj Kumar Behera for Assistant General Secretary.
Durga Charan Majhi and Jagadeb Chatar are among the candidates listed for the Secretary post. The candidates named for Assistant Secretary are Barsharani Giri, Mamata Hanaga, Lojesh Behera and Deepak Kumar Munda.
Snehasish Pradhan is the candidate for the first-year undergraduate Science representative post, while Subhashree Patra is contesting for the second-year undergraduate Commerce representative position. Smruti Smaranika Sethi and Baijayanta Mahanta are contesting for the third-year undergraduate Science representative post.
The schedule states that candidates can withdraw their nominations on the following day. The programme for candidates to explain their participation in the election is scheduled for October 14, while polling and declaration of results will take place on October 15.
In his statement, College Principal Manoj Kumar Sahu appealed to students to cast their votes peacefully and maintain discipline throughout the election process. He urged them to elect suitable representatives who would work for the development and progress of the college.
The students’ union election is being held after a gap of nearly eight years, which has generated considerable excitement among students. Various student organisations, including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BJD’s student wing) and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), are participating in the election.
