A native of Baunshapur village under Angarpada Gram Panchayat in Raruan block of Mayurbhanj district, Professor Mohanta is the son of farmer Gurupasad Mohanta and Rajani Rani Mohanta. His father, a farmer who never attended school and was deprived of formal educational opportunities, has witnessed his son achieve international recognition through his research and scientific contributions.

According to the certificate provided, he has secured a global overall rank of 37,073, while his global rank in the subfield of plant biology and botany stands at 545.
His name has reportedly featured in the list for six consecutive years, from 2021 to 2026. The certificate states that the rankings are associated with scientific assessments by Elsevier and Stanford University.
