CM Channi’s brother to contest independently after not getting party ticket

Chandigarh: The brother of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, angry over not getting a ticket in the Punjab Assembly Election 2022, has revolted. Dr Manohar Singh has now announced to contest from Bassi Pathana assembly seat as an independent candidate. Manohar Singh said after the ticket was cut, “I was a contender for Bassi Pathana seat, but the party (Congress) has refused to give the ticket. I will contest as an independent candidate, I did the same thing in 2007 and won the election.”

The party did not give a chance to Dr Manohar Singh, citing the rule of ‘One Family, One Ticket’. At the same time, Manohar Singh did not get support from Punjab Pradesh Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu. Sidhu supported the candidature of sitting MLA Gurpreet Singh GP from this seat and the party has made him its candidate.

Dr Manohar Singh wanted to start his political career by resigning from the job of Senior Medical Officer but Congress did not give him a ticket. CM Channi has not yet given any reaction to this decision of the party. Bassi Pathana seat in Fatehgarh Sahib district is a reserved seat for the Scheduled Castes.
