According to Vigilance officials, Das was caught while allegedly receiving the money in connection with the release of a pending bill and security deposit amount related to the construction of a school under Badachana Block. Personal Assistant Also Held : Her personal assistant, Somanath Sethi, was also apprehended in connection with the case. Officials said the operation was carried out following a complaint alleging that the assistant engineer had demanded money to facilitate the release of the outstanding payment. Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap and intercepted the accused while the alleged bribe transaction was taking place. The Vigilance team also recovered and seized Rs 35,000, which is suspected to be the bribe amount. Simultaneous Searches On: Following the trap, simultaneous searches were conducted at three locations linked to the assistant engineer as part of a broader probe into possible assets disproportionate to her known sources of income. The latest action comes amid a series of anti-corruption operations by Odisha Vigilance against government officials accused of demanding illegal gratification. Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether more persons were involved and to examine the financial transactions and assets linked to the case.
