Lohegaon Airport of Pune to be renamed ‘Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Airport’

Pune: In a welcoming step, the Maharashtra Assembly had passed a resolution on December 19 to rename the Lohegaon airport, Pune. It will be renamed as Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Airport.The resolution to pass the new name of the Lohegaon airport at Pune was proposed by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. It was proposed under rule 110 of Maharashtra Assembly. After proposing the name change, voting was done in the Maharashtra Assembly. It was later on passed by the Assembly and the Maharashtra Cabinet also passed the proposal for renaming of the Lohegaon Airport of PuneThe new name is suggested to honour Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj who played a pivotal role in the spreading the Bhakti movement in Maharashtra. He was a 17th century poet and saint. He was a devotee of Lord Vithoba and was a member of the Varkari sect.
