Central govt makes big change in education rule, scraps ‘no-detention policy’ for classes 5 and 8 students

New Delhi: The Central government today took a major decision as it made a big change in education rule by scraping the ‘no-detention policy’ for classes 5 and 8 students.As per the decision taken by the government, the students of classes 5 and 8 will have to pass the year-end exams to get promoted to the next classes, class 6 and class 9. In case anyone fails, he/she will get a second chance to pass within two months.However, if the student continues to fail even in the re-examination or do not fulfill the promotion criteria again, he shall be held back in fifth class or eighth class, as the case may be and the teachers will provide guidance and address learning gaps for students who are held back.Over 3,000 central government-run schools, including Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navaodyala Vidyalayas, and Sainik Schools will be affected by the decision of the government.However, the government has emphasized that no student will be expelled before completing elementary education i.e until the 8th grade, said Sanjay Kumar, the Secretary of Department of School Education & Literacy.The Central Government took the decision to abolish the ‘No Detention Policy’ with an aim to improve the learning outcome among children, he added.
