Rohit Sharma had almost decided to call it quits from Test cricket after India’s disastrous tour of Australia, but was convinced otherwise by well-wishers outside the team. According to a report in The Times of India, Rohit had decided to quit after the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne but was convinced otherwise. This development hasn’t gone well with Gautam Gambhir, who criticized the influence from outside on Rohit’s decision. It was bold when Rohit decided to drop himself for the final Test match in Sydney to accommodate Shubman Gill. But, as it turned out, he was actually considering something more extreme: retirement from Test cricket altogether. Indian captain Rohit had a pretty woeful series with the bat, and things only worsened for him as the team lost all matches under his leadership.Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma have been said to have differences of opinion on several matters, including team composition and toss decisionsIt was, therefore, a bit surprising that Gambhir chose not to speak on Rohit’s non-selection for the final Test match. That led to speculations of a rift between the two. Though Rohit later clarified that it was his own decision to sit out, the tension between the two is palpable.

Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has recently had a word or two to say on the issues of Gambhir and Rohit. According to Uthappa, Gambhir is still trying to get used to his new role and is still getting used to the idea of having to share his decisions with Rohit. He believes that their chemistry would take time, but he feels they respect each other and like each other.
