Vigilance Nabs Doctor Taking Bribe For Favourable Post-Mortem Report In Cuttack

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials on Wednesday apprehended Dr Biswanath Adhek, a Surgery Specialist at the Badamba Community Health Centre (CHC) in Cuttack district, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 2,000.This amount was the second installment of an overall demand of Rs 5,000 from a complainant, in exchange for issuing a favorable post-mortem report for the complainant’s deceased son and assuring favorable testimony in court during the trial.According to an official press release, Dr Adhek had previously received Rs 2,000 from the complainant a few days ago. Left with no other option, the complainant, who is financially disadvantaged, reported the matter to the Vigilance authorities.Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance team set a trap and apprehended Dr  Adhek while he was accepting the bribe of Rs. 2,000 on Wednesday.The bribe amount has been recovered from Dr Adhek’s possession and seized as evidence. Following the arrest, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two of Dr Adhek’s locations to investigate the possibility of disproportionate assets (DA).The anti-corruption agency has registered a case against Dr. Adhek at the Cuttack Vigilance police station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act of 2018. Further investigations are underway.
