Jajpur: The death toll due to diarrhoea is on a rise in the state and reached 21 on Tuesday. The waterborne disease has spread to 7 districts. Over 1700 have been infected by the disease in the state. According to information, 1700 people have been infected with diarrhoea of which 1300 have recovered. The current active cases of diarrhoea in the state is 240. The disease has taken the form of an epidemic in the district of Jajpur. The disease is spread by the causative agent Vibrio cholera. The 14-membered central team has termed it as an epidemic. The situation in Dharmasala, Badachana, Rasulpur, Jajpur town, Danagadi, Vyasnagar municipality and Korei has worsened. To stop the spread of the disease, the hotels, dhabas, eateries and fast food stalls have been closed down for two weeks in Dharmasala, Binjharpur and Bari tehsils. The government has also restricted the opening of the fish and chicken shops. The doctors have been directed to visit the villages and distribute medicines and aware them about the spread of the disease borne by water and food. The disease had started to spread from June 9 in Jajpur. Food safety inspections are being intensified to prevent contamination and the neighboring districts have also been alerted to remain vigilant and ramp up preventive measures.
