Jammu and Kashmir: Big action in NIA’s terror funding case, raids on more than 56 locations

J&K, 8/8 :The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken major action in the terror funding case in Jammu and Kashmir. The NIA on Sunday conducted raids at around 56 places in Jammu and Kashmir with the help of Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF in connection with a case registered against the banned outfit Jamaat-e-Islami. Raids were conducted at the residence of Ghazi Moin-ul Islam, a resident of Soura in Srinagar and the Falah-e-Aam Trust in Nowgam.

An NIA spokesperson said that the NIA conducted joint raids at 56 places in all 10 districts of Kashmir and four districts of Jammu province- Ramban, Kishtwar, Doda and Rajouri. A senior team of NIA has left for Srinagar from New Delhi to conduct the operation. The investigative body has seized documents and digital equipment and called it one of the biggest crackdowns against Jamaat-e-Islami.

“Search operation was conducted today in the office premises of the banned organization’s office-bearers, members and the trust allegedly run by Jamaat-e-Islami,” the spokesperson said. During the operation, various electronic devices and incriminating documents were seized from the premises of the suspects. The Center had in February 2019 banned Jamaat-e-Islami for five years under anti-terror laws on the ground that it was “closely in touch” with terrorist organizations and “supported the separatist movement” in its erstwhile state.
