Tokyo, 29/8: Nishad Kumar of India has won the silver medal in the ongoing Paralympic Games in Tokyo. He won the country a silver medal in the men’s high jump T-47 event. Nishad jumped 2.06 meters in the final of this event and also equaled the Asian Games record of the same year. This is India’s second medal in these games.
In the final of the same event, India’s second para-athlete Rampal Chahar finished at number 5. However, he gave his best and jumped 1.94 meters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and Paralympic Committee chief Deepa Malik have congratulated Nishad for his excellent performance.

PM Modi wrote on Twitter, ‘Another happy news has come from Tokyo. Nishad Kumar won silver medal in men’s high jump T-47, which makes me very happy. He has become a great athlete with excellent skill and hard work, many congratulations to him.
Before Nishad, table tennis player Bhavina Ben Patel had opened the account of India’s medals in the Tokyo Paralympic Games by winning the silver medal. Bhavina lost 11-7, 11-5, 11-6 to Zhou Ying of China in the final of the women’s singles Class 4.
