Gold Ornaments Worth Rs 40 Lakh Looted From Maa Vaishno Devi Temple In Nayagarh

Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, the revered Maa Vaishno Devi Temple located on Jamukona hill in Nayagarh district was robbed late last night. The temple, popularly known as the second shrine of Goddess Vaishno Devi in the region, houses a sacred cave shrine that has now become the target of thieves.According to preliminary reports, the robbers targeted the 180-foot underground cave section of the temple. They took advantage of complete darkness caused by a strong Kalabaisakhi storm accompanied by heavy rain and wind, which led to a power outage in the area.Taking advantage the absence of electricity and security, the miscreants cut through the main gate of the cave and stole valuable gold ornaments belonging to the deity. The stolen items, including gold ornaments donated by the Maa Vaishnodevi Charitable Trust and devotees, are estimated to be worth around Rs 40 lakh. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. No arrests have been reported so far.Local devotees and temple authorities expressed deep anguish over the desecration of the holy site. The temple on Jamukona hill, which has gained popularity in recent years as a significant religious destination in Odisha, attracts thousands of pilgrims.
