Tension prevailed in Odisha’s Dhenkanal town after a youth climbed a mobile tower near the Town Police Station and threatened to commit suicide while demanding reinstatement in service and medical assistance for his ailing mother.Dhenkanal: Tension prevailed in Odisha’s Dhenkanal town after a youth climbed a mobile tower near the Town Police Station and threatened to commit suicide while demanding reinstatement in service and medical assistance for his ailing mother.The youth was identified as Rudra Narayan Das of Sogar village under Tumusinga police limits.According to officials, Rudra climbed the mobile tower on Saturday and submitted a written petition outlining his demands to fire service personnel present at the spot. He allegedly threatened to pour petrol on himself and attempt self-immolation if his demands were not addressed.In his petition, Rudra claimed that he had joined the OSAP 1st Battalion as a jawan in 2018 and was later sent to Jharsuguda for training with the 2nd Battalion. During training, he reportedly suffered from severe headaches and underwent a COVID test, which came negative.He alleged that instead of saline treatment, he was administered an injection that adversely affected his health. Later, he was shifted to Burla Medical College and Hospital for treatment and was subsequently dismissed from service on grounds of physical disability.Rudra claimed that he had repeatedly appealed to various officials, public representatives and even the Chief Minister seeking reinstatement in his job, but received no relief.He also demanded government assistance for the treatment of his mother, who is reportedly suffering from cancer.Following the incident, senior district officials including the Additional District Magistrate, Sub-Collector, Tahsildar, SDPO, and fire officers from Dhenkanal and Angul rushed to the spot and initiated efforts to persuade him to come down safely.Police and fire personnel remained deployed in the area as rescue and negotiation efforts continued.
