More than 80 people fell ill after consuming food at a wedding feast in Bartia village under Rengali Panchayat in Khaprakhol block of Bolangir district.The incident began on Thursday when around 40 villagers reported symptoms of food poisoning and received treatment at the Khaprakhol Community Health Centre (CHC). Some patients were discharged after initial care. By Friday, the number of affected individuals increased significantly, prompting urgent medical intervention.A medical team led by Dr Rashmita Behera and Dr Geetanjali Patra, along with Pharmacist Nirakara Barik, ANM staff, and Anganwadi workers, visited the village. They treated more than 40 additional patients through door-to-door medical care. One seriously ill patient was referred to Patnagarh for advanced treatment.Dr Suraj Deep, in charge of Khaprakhol CHC, confirmed that villagers fell ill after consuming food served at the wedding feast. He assured that the situation is now under control following extensive medical efforts.Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the food poisoning. Health officials emphasised that preventive measures will be strengthened to avoid similar incidents in the future.
