Paralakhemundi, July 3(Tarini Prasad Panda): In a major crackdown on inter-state narcotics trafficking, Adava Police in Odisha’s Gajapati district seized 45 kg of ganja in two separate raids and arrested three alleged smugglers, thwarting attempts to transport the contraband outside the state. Police also confiscated two motorcycles used in the illegal trade, underscoring intensified efforts to curb drug smuggling from the district.
According to Adava IIC Santosh Bisoyi, the arrested persons have been identified as Kamal Majhi (35), Basant Majhi (28), and Faustin Mallik (35), all residents of Budhagaon village.
During routine patrolling near Jangudi village, police intercepted a motorcycle (OD 07V 9299) carrying a suspicious plastic sack. A search led to the recovery of 22 kg of ganja, and rider Kamal Majhi was arrested on the spot.
In another operation near Khariguda village, a separate police team stopped another motorcycle (OD 07AB 2868) carrying two youths. The search resulted in the seizure of 23 kg of ganja, leading to the arrest of Basant Majhi and Faustin Mallik.
Police have registered two separate cases under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. The seized contraband and motorcycles have been taken into custody, and all three accused have been produced before the court, the IIC said.
