Washington DC, 22/7: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced a phased tariff regime on imported generic medicines, introducing steep duties from August 2028 in a move aimed at shifting pharmaceutical manufacturing to the United States.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said imported generic drugs would continue to attract a zero per cent tariff from August 1, 2026, for the next two years. The tariff would then rise to 100 per cent for one year before increasing to 200 per cent.
