Deep Depression Over Bay Of Bengal To Intensify Into Cyclonic Storm Today

Bhubaneswar: The deep depression over southwest Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 13 kmph and lay centered over the same region, about 130 km east-southeast of Trincomalee, 400 km southeast of Nagappattinam, 510 km southeast of Puducherry and 590 km south-southeast of Chennai.The system is very likely to continue to move north-northwestwards and intensify further into a cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday. Thereafter, it will continue to move north-northwestwards towards Tamil Nadu coast skirting Sri Lanka coast during the subsequent two days.If the system intensifies into a cyclone, it will be called ‘Pengal’.While the cyclonic storm will not have any significant impact on Odisha, it is likely to trigger light to moderate rain in several parts of the state. Light rain is likely in the state on November 28 and 29. Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Ganjam and Gajapati districts are likely to receive light rain on November 28, while it will rain in some parts of Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Puri, Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam and Gajapati on November 29.
