AM/NS India conducts Mock Drill to enhance onsite emergency preparedness

Paradeep, January 18, 2025: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has
conducted a full-scale mock drill to test its onsite emergency preparedness capabilities. As
per the schedule of the District Crisis Group (DCG), Jagatsinghpur, the mock drill was
conducted in the presence of government authorities, delegates from neighbouring
industries, and emergency services.
The drill simulated a fire incident at the GT transformer area of the power plant within the
Paradeep Pellet Plant complex. The exercise involved active participation from various
departments, including Operations, Mechanical, Electrical, Health & Safety, Administration,
HR, Fire, and Medical. A key highlight of the drill was the successful deployment of a
firefighting robot named "Krushna" in collaboration with the Odisha Fire Department,
Kujang. This innovative technology minimises human involvement in firefighting
operations, thus enhancing safety of personnel.
Distinguished attendees on the occasion included Shri Smruti Ranjan Kar, Addl.
Superintendent of Police, Paradeep, Shri Manoj Panda, Dy. Director of Factories and
Boilers, Cuttack, Shri Chandra Sekhar Behera, Asst. Director of Factories and Boilers,
Paradeep, Shri Pushkar Chandra Behera, Regional Officer, State Pollution Control Board,
Paradeep, Shri Kartik Biswal, Fire Officer, Kujang, Shri Debendra Rout, Sarpanch,
Nuagarh Gram Panchayat along with Shri Rajarshi Sinha, Head-Power Plant, Shri Saroja
Pattanayak, Head-Power Plant and Shri Sanjeev Kumar Muduli, Head-Health & Safety
from AM/NS India. Representatives from the Indian Coast Guard, CISF-Paradeep,
members of DCG, IOCL-LPG Terminal, Paradeep Port Authority, and IFFCO, Goa Carbon
were also present on this occasion.
The health and safety department seamlessly coordinated the drill, and a command
structure was established as per the onsite emergency preparedness plan, demonstrating
expertise in mitigating potential hazards.
On the occasion, Shri Suresha G, Executive Director, Odisha Operations, AM/NS India,
said, "At AM/NS India, safety is non-negotiable. We regularly conduct various drills and
activities to enhance our safety performance and ensure we are well-prepared to respond
effectively to any emergency. This mock drill, along with the valuable insights from
observers, will further enhance our emergency preparedness and response capabilities."
