Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Begin Indefinite Strike in Gunupur

Gunupur, Rayagada, August 25, 2026: Anganwadi workers and helpers in Gunupur block of Rayagada district launched an indefinite strike on Tuesday, pressing for fulfilment of their demands. The protesters first submitted a memorandum to the Sub-Collector’s office and later gathered outside the office of the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), where they began their demonstration. The workers’ primary demand is immediate action, including the transfer of the CDPO. Their agitation comes against the backdrop of 17-point allegations reportedly raised by Anganwadi workers against the CDPO, including allegations of irregularities and corruption. The workers have demanded an impartial inquiry into the allegations. The allegations remain claims made by the protesting workers and have not been independently established. No conclusion regarding their veracity should be drawn unless confirmed through a departmental or other competent inquiry. The workers said their strike, including a proposed fast-unto-death, would continue until their demands are addressed by the authorities.
