A Bangladeshi national working as a temporary employee at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala near Payyannur, was arrested on Saturday, taking the number of Bangladeshi nationals detained in Kannur district this week to six.The accused, identified as 32‑year‑old Viplav Soren, had reportedly been working at the academy for about a year. He was arrested by Payyannur Police Sub‑Inspector Shuhaib on the instructions of Circle Inspector Mahesh K Nair, officials said.Kannur Police official Umesh Goyal stated that investigators are yet to confirm whether “Viplav Soren” is his real identity. The nature of his work at the INA has not been disclosed, and police have not commented on possible security concerns.The arrest follows the detention of five Bangladeshi women earlier this week for staying in India without valid documents. Four of them—Nazma Akter (40), Taslima Khatun (25), Moyna Khatun (29), and Nasri Bheebi (28)—were arrested on Thursday after police raided a rented house in Odenparambu. Fake Indian identity documents were recovered during the search.Police said the women had been working at a spa in Kannur city for several months and admitted to obtaining fake documents from Assam before travelling to Kerala. They have been remanded in judicial custody under the Immigration and Foreigners Act.The series of arrests has raised questions about illegal migration and document forgery networks operating in Kerala.
