Bhubaneswar mob lynching: Crime Branch intensifies probe

Bhubaneswar, May 11: The Crime Branch has intensified its probe into the Balipatna brutality case. On the second day of investigation, the team will visit the spot and record statements of eyewitnesses along with family members of deceased Soumya. Earlier, investigators collected detailed information related to the alleged mob killing from Balipatna police.Crime Branch DG Vinaytosh Mishra said two cases have been registered in connection with the incident. Statements of several witnesses have already been recorded, while the remaining eyewitnesses and Soumya’s family members will be questioned soon. He added that the postmortem and forensic reports are being examined, while social media content linked to the case is also under scrutiny.The Crime Branch said all aspects of the case are being thoroughly investigated. The DG further clarified that it would not be appropriate to term everyone present at the scene as accused. He also stated that, so far, no concrete evidence has emerged to classify the incident as mob violence. However, if such evidence surfaces during the investigation, relevant sections related to mob violence will be invoked against the accused.
