Bhubaneswar, October 14: Bhubaneswar Music Circle (BMC), a premier non-profit cultural organisation in Odisha dedicated to promoting and preserving Indian classical music, dance and devotional traditions, organised a soulful ghazal evening at Jayadev Bhavan, Bhubaneswar, to commemorate its founder, Sardar Santok Singh.
The annual memorial programme is held in October, the birth month of Sardar Santok Singh, to honour his memory through his favourite musical genres, including ghazals and other semi-classical forms.
The evening featured distinguished singer, composer and ghazal artist Jenab Md. Abid and Odia playback singer and noted stage performer Ms. Smruti Mohapatra. Their soulful renditions celebrated the richness and emotional depth of ghazal music.
Jenab Md. Abid has dedicated more than four decades to music, making significant contributions to the Odia music industry through singing, composition, playback singing and the promotion of regional musical traditions. Ms. Smruti Mohapatra is well known for her Odia film playback singing and live stage performances.
The singers were accompanied by Shri Eraj K. Rath on keyboard, Shri Pankaj K. Rath on octapad and Shri Santosh Bhajabal on tabla, whose musical support enhanced the evening’s performances.
Through its annual memorial programme and other cultural initiatives, Bhubaneswar Music Circle continues to honour its founder’s legacy while fostering appreciation for India’s rich musical heritage.
