BJP Revokes Suspension of Veteran Leader Aira Kharabela Swain

Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has revoked the suspension order issued against its senior leader Mahameghabahan Aira Kharabela Swain.BJP Odisha State Disciplinary Committee Convener Sudarshan Nayak announced the withdrawal of the suspension on Sunday.Swain, a former Lok Sabha MP from Balasore, was earlier suspended from the party for allegedly violating party discipline. With the revocation of the order, he has now been reinstated in the party.Notably, Swain was elected to the Lok Sabha from Odisha’s Balasore constituency on a BJP ticket in 1998, 1999, and 2004. He quit the BJP in 2009 and floated his own political party. However, he returned to the BJP in 2019 and contested the Lok Sabha elections from the Kandhamal seat, but lost.The veteran leader had sought the BJP ticket to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Balasore. However, after being denied the ticket by the party, he contested the polls as an independent candidate. Swain was subsequently suspended from the BJP on charges of indiscipline.
