Sonepur, August 9: In a major haul, the Subalaya police in Sonepur district has seized more than 12.5 quintals of ganja (cannabis) valued at around Rs 13 crore from a truck. However, no person was arrested.Acting on a tip-off that a truck was illegally transporting ganja under Subalaya police station limits, a team of police officials immediately chased the vehicle. However, upon noticing the police movement, the truck driver and a few others managed to escape by abandoning the vehicle in a secluded place.A search revealed more than 12.5 quintals of ganja. A case has been registered at Subalaya Police Station in connection with the incident.Police said that the probe will focus on identifying the driver and others present in the truck, suppliers, transport facilitators, financiers and intended recipients of the consignment.Meanwhile, DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania hailed the Sonepur police for the seizure of such a huge quantity of contraband.This seizure is part of the sustained crackdown on drug cartels operating through Odisha under the ongoing State-wide ‘Drug-Free Odisha’ campaign.
