Heatwave condition likely to continue in Odisha till May 28: IMD

Bhubaneswar: The prevailing heatwave condition across Odisha is likely to continue till May 28, said the IMD on Saturday.As per the IMD prediction, some places across districts like Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balangir, Boudh, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Khurda may witness heatwave condition till May 28. The MeT Department has issued an Orange warning in this regard.Besides, several places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri and Nayagarh are likely to witness hot and humid conditions till May 28, said the IMD regional centre in its weather bulletin.In addition to this, the IMD has predicted thunderstorms at a few places across Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Sundargarh, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri and Nayagarh till May 30.According to the IMD, there will be no large change in maximum temperatures or day temperatures across Odisha during the next five days. Thereafter, the maximum temperatures are likely to fall by 2 to 3 Degree Celsius, said the IMD.The MeT Department, meanwhile, revealed that the southwest monsoon is likely to advance to some more areas in the next few days. “Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of southwest & southeast Arabian Sea, Comorin Area, southwest, southeast & eastcentral Bay of Bengal and remaining parts of Andaman Sea during next 3-4 days,” it said.
