Mayurbhanj, September 22: The unique historic royal palace of Mayurbhanj, which was once the royal residence of the Bhanja dynasty, was initially used as MPC College and is now being used as MPC Junior College. However, due to a lack of proper maintenance, this historic palace is gradually falling into a state of disrepair.There was a time when the king had a magnificent palace at Haripur, but it has now been reduced to ruins. In the same way, proper attention must be given to preserving the historic building that is currently being used as a college.Today, Odisha’s Housing and Urban Development Minister, Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, visited the college and personally inspected the rooms in the palace that are gradually deteriorating. He directed that the rooms requiring repairs be repaired at the earliest and that the palace be properly maintained and kept in good condition.After this, he visited MPC Autonomous College and the ITI College at Takatpur and reviewed arrangements for providing proper facilities for students to continue their studies. He arranged five rooms at the Autonomous College and three rooms at the ITI. He also identified a site in consultation with the Tehsildar for construction of the new college building.During the visit, Minister Mahapatra inspected various problems at the Autonomous College and expressed his displeasure over the prevailing conditions. He questioned the college principal about cleanliness. He said that negligence in the health and education sectors would not be tolerated and directed that proper arrangements and effective management be ensured at the earliest.However, the students of MPC Junior College have expressed their view that the institution should not be shifted from its present location. They want the institution to continue functioning at the same place and the historic building to be properly repaired, maintained and preserved.
