India women’s team had a fantastic run at the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026. The team narrowly missed out on the semifinal berth, courtesy of goal difference, but they were brilliant throughout the tournament and pulled off some magnificent results. India capped off a brilliant tournament after beating world No. 5 Germany 3-1 in the fifth-place playoff in Amstelveen. The team also defeated South Africa while playing out draws against England, Australia and China. Their only defeat came against the Netherlands. Throughout the tournament, India conceded just six goals and scored 11.Led by Salima Tete, this was India’s best finish at the Hockey World Cup in more than five decades, since the women’s side finished fourth in the inaugural edition in 1974.Following the stunning performance, Hockey India announced a cash reward of INR 50 lakh for the women’s team. Each member of the squad will get INR 2 lakh, while the members of the support staff will get INR 1 lakh.The Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey was delighted with the performance of coach Marijne’s side and hoped that the cash prize will inspire the players to keep raising the bar.
