Jharsuguda: Brajrajnagar Police on Wednesday busted an illegal arms racket under “Operation Netra” and arrested two persons, including a notorious criminal, in Jharsuguda district, police said.The arrested accused has been identified as Adarsh Dubey alias Bittu, a resident of the Brajrajnagar area. Police said he was allegedly involved in illegally importing and supplying firearms from Bihar to local operatives in the region.Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police conducted coordinated raids at four different locations under Brajrajnagar police limits. During the operation, police seized one 7.65 mm pistol, two country-made pistols, and four rounds of live ammunition from the possession of the accused.Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police Gundala Reddy Raghavendra said the operation was carried out under the supervision of the SDPO Brajrajnagar and the leadership of the IIC Brajrajnagar. He said the raid led to the recovery of illegal arms and ammunition and the arrest of two persons involved in the racket The SP further stated that strict action would be taken against anti-social elements involved in illegal arms trade and warned that such activities would not be tolerated in the district.Police also said that the arrested accused has a criminal history and has been previously involved in serious offences, including attempt to murder and smuggling-related cases.With this operation, police claimed to have disrupted a wider criminal network engaged in the illegal supply of weapons in the region.
