Malkangiri: A 22-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after being humiliated at a village meeting over his love marriage in Odisha’s Malkangiri district. The deceased has been identified as Sagar Sarkar of MV-92 village.According to reports, Sagar had fallen in love with a 26-year-old woman and married her before bringing her to the village. Following this, a local meeting was convened in the village to discuss the matter.During the meeting, the committee demanded a fine of Rs 1.20 lakh from Sagar. It has also been alleged that he was severely assaulted during the meeting.The woman was later taken away by her family members.Unable to bear the humiliation, Sagar reportedly took the extreme step of ending his life, as his body was found hanging inside his house.Police have started an investigation into the incident to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his death.
