Malkangiri: In a breakthrough in a five-year-old robbery case, Malkangiri police have arrested a couple from Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu in connection with a jewellery shop loot reported in 2021, police said on Monday.The arrested duo has been identified as Madasu John Paul and Inturi Aruna.According to Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Vinodh Patil H, the incident dates back to a jewellery shop robbery at the district headquarters town, where the accused allegedly decamped with gold ornaments and cash.Police said the couple allegedly stole around 700 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 2 lakh in cash after offering “intoxicated sweets” to the shopkeepers.Following the incident, the accused reportedly fled Odisha and settled in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, to evade arrest.Acting on sustained investigation and intelligence inputs, police traced and apprehended the duo from Tamil Nadu.During further investigation, police recovered 200 grams of gold biscuits, two pistols, a motorcycle, nine live rounds of ammunition, and a laptop from their possession.Further interrogation is underway to ascertain possible links and involvement in other crimes, police said.
