Nayagada: In a daring crime, miscreants opened fire at a youth and decamped with a bike in Nayagarh district, creating panic in the area.The incident was reported from Patia Paikasahi under Chandpur police station limits. The youth who had sustained severe injuries due to firing has been identified as Pintu Nayak of Patia Paikasahi. His condition is stated to be critical.According to reports, Pintu had gone to river embankment near the village when a few miscreants arrived on a bike. The miscreants allegedly asked Pintu to hand over the key of his Yamaha bike. When he refused, they shot him in one leg. Even after being shot, when Pintu still refused to give the keys, the miscreants shot him in the other leg as well. Critically injured after being shot in both legs, Pintu collapsed at the spot. Taking advantage of the situation, the miscreants fled with his Yamaha bike.Hearing Pintu’s screams, locals rushed to the spot and informed Chandpur police. Police reached the spot immediately and admitted the injured youth to Chandpur hospital. As his condition was critical, he was later shifted to Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment.Meanwhile, Chandpur police have started an investigation into the incident. Efforts are on to trace who the miscreants were, where they came from and which direction they fled.
