Bhubaneswar: The Principal of Odisha Adarsh Vidyalaya, Th Rampur in Kalahandi district was apprehended by Vigilance sleuths for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.Accused Sitakanta Rana was caught red-handed while demanding and taking the bribe from a functionary of an SHG. The bribe was allegedly demanded to clear pending bills for cleaning work for three months in the current financial year 2026-27.According to Vigilance, the SHG functionary had been following up with Rana for release of the pending payments for some time. Rana allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 to process the bills. Unable to pay, the complainant approached the Vigilance.Acting on the complaint, a team laid a trap and apprehended Rana while he was accepting the tainted money. The entire Rs 10,000 was recovered and seized from his possession.Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to Rana from a disproportionate assets angle.A case has been registered at Koraput Vigilance Police Station, Case No. 17/2026, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
