Odisha panchayat and ULB elections to be held between April and June 2027

Bhubaneswar, July 18: The panchayat and urban local body (ULB) elections will be held between April and June 2027, said the State Election Commission (SEC) Secretary Santosh Kumar Dash on Saturday.“The State Election Commission has started preparations for conducting panchayat and ULB elections. Draft reservation list for the posts of chairpersons in urban local bodies has been released. After the publication of the list, door-to-door survey will be conducted. Notification for holding elections will be issued on March and election is likely to be held between April and May next year,” said Dash.Odisha has more than 6,700 gram panchayats, 314 panchayat samitis and 852 zilla parishad zones. Similarly, there are 143 Urba Local Bodies (ULBs) in the State.The tenure of the current three-tier rural local bodies, elected in February 2022, is set to end in March 2027. The last panchayat polls were held between February 16 and 24, 2022.SEC Secretary Dash said that the electoral roll activity will begin in October this year.He said that there are nearly 12,000 EVMs for ULBs. Around 6,000 more EVMs will be added for smooth conduct of the elections in urban local bodies.On June 21, as part of the election preparations, the SEC convened a videoconference with district collectors.Before the elections, the SEC will also complete ward delimitation and finalise reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and women.
