A major series of robbery cases reported in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj was cracked by Ganjam Police on Tuesday as gold and silver jewellery worth more than Rs 21 lakh was seized in the operation. Police arrested one person in connection with the case.The arrested accused has been identified as Naresh. The gang allegedly travelled from Ganjam to Mayurbhanj to carry out robberies. A total of five theft cases were reported between July and August in the Morada, Jashipur, Koliana and Jharpokharia police station areas.According to reports, miscreants allegedly intercepted traders returning from a weekly market in the Morada area. They robbed the traders reportedly carrying gold and silver jewellery.During the investigation, Mayurbhanj Police initially seized a motorcycle and traced the involvement of a gang from Ganjam. The information was subsequently shared with Ganjam Police.Following directions from the Ganjam SP, three teams were formed under the leadership of the Aska SDPO. The teams conducted raids at several locations before arresting Naresh.Police continued their efforts to apprehend other persons allegedly involved in the robberies. Sourav Ranjan Pradhan, Aska Sub-Divisional Police Officer, said, “Between July 21 and August 22, around five robbery cases were reported in Mayurbhanj. During the investigation, Mayurbhanj Police suspected the gang was from Ganjam. Following the Ganjam SP’s directions, joint teams from both districts conducted raids in Aska and arrested Naresh.” He further stated that several cases were registered against him across the state. Based on his statement, police recovered around 7.5 kg of silver and 60 grams of gold jewellery, valued at more than Rs 21 lakh.
