Police Action on Protesters Unacceptable and Unconstitutional: OPCC President

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Bhakta Charan Das has strongly condemned the police action against protesters. He stated that the Congress party has always supported people’s movements and will continue to do so. However, when the police become uncontrolled and the government loses its restraint, they attempt to hide their mistakes, injustice, and corruption, said PCC President Mr Das.Mr Das stated that the police brutality against protesters is unacceptable. Using force to suppress the democratic rights of the people is anti-constitutional. He further stated that serious allegations of corruption and vote theft have surfaced against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. These allegations have become a topic of discussion nationwide, and he should be removed from his post. He questioned why the government is protecting him. This is a vast democracy where the vote is supreme. Governments are formed through votes, and people’s welfare depends on them, yet the government is trying to stay in power by stealing votes, Mr Das alleged. He stated that by displaying police brutality against protesters, the government is trying to cover up its own failures and corruption. This agitation will continue until the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar and the resolution of the vote-theft issue. The PCC President called upon everyone to unite to protect the democratic rights of the people.Meanwhile, Odisha Congress leaders have received a summons from Delhi. Senior Congress leader Santosh Singh Saluja informed that PCC President Mr Das, along with all MLAs and senior leaders, has been instructed to reach Delhi by Sunday night. Odisha Congress leaders will participate in the ongoing protest led by the INDIA bloc against the ECI. According to sources at the Congress Bhawan, the state party aims to have more than 200 leaders participate in Monday’s program.
