Puri records second-highest October day temperature in 130 years

Puri: Odisha’s Puri has recorded a new heat record with the coastal city witnessing its second-highest maximum day temperature for October in 130 years. This is now the second-highest October day temperature recorded in the city so far. Earlier, Puri had recorded 36.3°C on October 4, 2024, which was then the second-highest October temperature. The latest reading of 36.6°C has now surpassed that record. Despite October already underway, Puri continues to experience intense daytime heat due to the unusually high temperatures. The persistent heat has raised concerns over further warming in the days ahead. The region has also witnessed unusual heat conditions in recent years. El Niño conditions were observed in 2023, while 2024 was marked by severe heat. With El Niño conditions currently in place, the temperature situation could remain a concern in the coming days.
