Rice sacks, ration cards found dumped in Keonjhar Forest

Sacks of rice and several ration cards were found dumped in a forested area behind the Barbil Adarsh Vidyalaya and the grid station in Keonjhar district of Odisha. The materials were found lying in the forest, though it is not yet clear who dumped them there or why. The discovery has drawn the attention of local residents, who have demanded a detailed investigation. An enquiry team was formed after officials received information about the matter, and an investigation is currently underway. According to the preliminary inquiry, the rice found in the sacks is not PDS rice. Officials are continuing to investigate the matter to determine where the rice and ration cards came from and how they ended up in the forest. Local residents have demanded a high-level investigation into the incident. They have sought clarity on the source of the materials and the circumstances under which they were dumped at the spot. Pabitra Kumar Sahu, Keonjhar Chief Supply Officer, said, “We formed an enquiry team after receiving the information, and the investigation is currently underway. According to the preliminary investigation, we found that the rice in those sacks is not PDS rice.”
