Sambalpur Police achieved a major breakthrough with the conviction of two members of the infamous “Motu Patlu Gang,” known for interstate house burglaries.The convicted offenders, Mohammad Akhlaq (50) of Delhi and Shobi alias Waseem alias Zuber (36) of Meerut, operated across Odisha and several other states.The gang specialised in daytime house burglaries using duplicate keys and secret surveillance of targeted homes. On September 25, 2024, complainant Sukhamaya Sarkar of Bluebell Villa, Burla, reported theft of gold ornaments and Rs 2 lakh cash from his residence. Police traced the involvement of the gang during the investigation and later arrested the accused in connection with Khetrajpur PS Case No. 93/2025.After the trial, the court found both guilty under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sentenced them to six years of rigorous imprisonment. The Motu Patlu Gang conviction underscores Sambalpur Police’s commitment to dismantling organised criminal networks and ensuring public safety.Police officials reaffirmed their focus on sustained crackdowns against habitual property offenders across Sambalpur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Rourkela.
