Severe Heatwave Grips Odisha, Jharsuguda Records 43.3°C

Odisha reeled under extreme heat on Sunday as half of the state recorded temperatures above 40°C, with Jharsuguda emerging as the hottest city at 43.3°C.The India Meteorological Department confirmed that 14 cities crossed the 40°C mark. Titilagarh followed Jharsuguda with 43°C, while Sonepur registered 42.3°C. Sambalpur and Bhawanipatna recorded 42°C, and Balangir, Sundargarh, and Rourkela reported 41.5°C. The relentless heatwave has left residents struggling to cope with soaring temperatures.The IMD forecast indicated that the severe heatwave will continue until April 23. Officials urged people to avoid outdoor activities during peak hours, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions. The department highlighted that western Odisha districts remain particularly vulnerable to rising temperatures.The oppressive heat has disrupted normal routines across towns and villages. Schools and workplaces reported reduced attendance as people sought shelter indoors. Health authorities advised citizens to remain cautious, especially children and the elderly, who face higher risks during prolonged exposure.
