Kataka: The Commissionerate Police will take strict action against extortionists, habitual offenders and those involved in illegal activities during the upcoming festive season, Kataka DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo said on Tuesday.The DCP said police have stepped up preparations to ensure peaceful celebrations in the city and will maintain heightened vigil at major festival venues and other sensitive locations.“Preparatory measures are already underway. A meeting will be held with festival organisers and police officials. As per the Chief Minister’s instructions, strict action will be taken against those indulging in illegal activities,” Dnyandeo told reporters.He said a preparatory meeting with festival organisers and police officials would be held shortly to discuss security arrangements and ensure the smooth conduct of the festivities.The police have also prepared a list of people who were previously involved in such activities and arrested in connection with various cases. Preventive action will be taken against habitual offenders to ensure they do not create trouble during the festive period, the DCP said.Police will also keep a close watch on extortion-related incidents during the celebrations. Dnyandeo appealed to people who receive demands for extortion money or come across any other unlawful activity to approach the nearest police station and lodge a complaint.“We will keep a watch on such activities and take action against those involved,” he said.As part of efforts to strengthen public safety, the Commissionerate Police is planning to introduce a common toll-free helpline to enable people to report untoward incidents during the festivities. The existing emergency response number, 112, will also remain available for those seeking immediate police assistance.Meanwhile, CCTV cameras installed at major festival venues and other sensitive locations will be activated as part of the security arrangements. Police personnel will maintain surveillance at key festival spots and keep a close watch on vulnerable areas.The DCP said the detailed security arrangements would be finalised after consultations with festival organisers and other stakeholders.
