Baliguda, Jul 4: Three youths lost their lives in a suspected hit-and-run accident after an unidentified vehicle rammed into the motorcycle they were travelling on near Mahasingh Bridge under Baliguda police limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district late on Friday night.The accident occurred between 10:30 pm and 11:00 pm when the three youths were riding a single motorcycle from Baliguda towards Mahasingh.According to police, one of the victims died on the spot due to the impact of the collision. The other two sustained critical injuries and were rushed to the Baliguda Sub-Divisional Hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries during treatment.Police said they were the first to reach the accident site after receiving information about the mishap. Since the victims were not local residents, no one in the area was able to identify them initially.During the investigation, police recovered an Aadhaar card from the wallet of the youth who died at the scene. The card identified him as Shubham Raj Jena, son of Pratap Jena, a resident of Totasahi in Nabarangpur district. Authorities are verifying the details and working to establish the identities of the other two deceased.The vehicle involved in the accident fled the scene immediately after the collision and remains untraced. Police have launched an investigation to identify the offending vehicle and determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
