Mayurbhanj (Thakurmunda): A seven- to eight-month-old tiger cub was rescued from Khaparkhai village near Similipal Sanctuary in Mayurbhanj district on Thursday night. The cub will be shifted to a larger enclosure inside the core area of the sanctuary after receiving veterinary care, forest officials said on Friday.According to a press note issued by the Similipal Tiger Reserve authorities, the cub first entered a cattle shed at Khaparkhai village under Thakurmunda Range of Karanjia Forest Division on the night of September 24.The village is located close to the Similipal Sanctuary. The cub subsequently remained inside an unoccupied house until Friday morning.On examination, forest officials found that the cub required veterinary attention. It was subsequently rescued and placed in a cage at around noon on Friday.The cub will now be provided veterinary care and kept under observation, the release said.After recovering and attaining the required level of fitness, the tiger cub will be shifted to a larger enclosure at Jamuna, located inside the core area of Similipal. It will eventually be released into the wild once it becomes capable of hunting and surviving independently, the release said.The rescue was carried out by forest authorities following the cub’s movement into a human habitation area adjoining the sanctuary.
