Titlagarh: Worms found in bread served to patients, sparks outrage

Titlagarh, Oct 7: Allegations of worms being found in bread served to patients at the Maternal and Child Hospital in Titlagarh have triggered anger among patients and their attendants. As part of the regular breakfast, bread was served to patients on Tuesday morning. However, some patients reportedly found worms inside the bread after opening it. Several patients refused to eat the bread, while some who consumed it allegedly suffered vomiting. After the matter came to light, hospital authorities inspected the food and removed the bread from the hospital premises, following which it was reportedly discarded. The incident has raised questions over the quality and safety of food supplied to patients. The food supply at the hospital is reportedly handled by a self-help group (SHG) named ‘Maa Ghantashuni’. Hospital authorities said a show-cause notice will be issued to the concerned SHG over the incident. Patients’ attendants have demanded stricter checks on the quality and hygiene of food supplied to patients and urged authorities to strengthen the inspection process to prevent such incidents from recurring.
