Rairangpur, September 30: As part of the special enforcement drive “Daman” launched across Odisha against criminals and anti-social elements during the festive season, Bahalda Police achieved a significant breakthrough with the arrest of two alleged interstate criminals and the seizure of two cars, cash, firearms, weapons and other materials suspected to have been used for criminal activities.
Rairangpur Police District SP Suresh Patra, while addressing a press conference at Bahalda Police Station, said that police received information that a group of five persons was allegedly planning to commit a robbery in and around the Bahalda-Basingi area.
Acting on the information, a team led by Bahalda Police Station IIC Bhaskar Pradhan conducted a surprise blockade at Basingi-Khijiritandi Chhak at around 7 p.m. on Tuesday and intercepted the suspects travelling in two cars.
Police arrested two persons and seized ₹1,85,700 in cash, a black Hyundai Verna car bearing registration number JH01CW5047, a white Toyota Fortuner bearing registration number JH05AM1515, two packets of chilli powder, two mobile phones, a 10-foot-long rope, eight live rounds of ammunition and an iron sword.
However, three other suspects allegedly managed to escape into the darkness after seeing the police.
The arrested persons have been identified as Farhan Rashid (24), son of late Harun Rashid of Tapchak village under Chandil Police Station in Seraikela-Kharsawan district of Jharkhand, and Mohammad Haider (32), son of Mohammad Akbar of Zakir Nagar, Hussain Mohalla, Mango area of Jamshedpur.
Bahalda Police have registered Case No. 174/26 and intensified the investigation.
Police sources said that cases relating to cattle smuggling and other criminal activities are reportedly pending against the accused in Jharkhand.
Additional Superintendent of Police Yadunath Jena, Bahalda IIC Bhaskar Pradhan and other police personnel were present at the press conference, which was attended by representatives of various media organisations.
