Woman dies after severe noise exposure from DJ system during wedding procession in Balangir

Patnagarh (Balangir): In a deeply tragic incident that has sparked widespread outrage, a poor woman allegedly lost her life after being exposed to high-decibel DJ sound during a wedding procession near Budharaja temple in Brahmapura area of Patnagarh in Odisha’s Balangir district.The deceased has been identified as Lochana Bahuk, wife of Sadananda Bahuk of Saurapada in Patnagarh. She was running a small roadside eatery to support her family.According to reports, the incident occurred when Lochana was bathing her granddaughter near a tube well in front of her hotel. At that time, a wedding procession carrying a DJ system stopped nearby and began playing extremely loud music.Eyewitnesses said the DJ vehicle continued playing at high volume for over an hour while the driver reportedly left the spot. Despite repeated requests from the woman, who complained of discomfort and pleaded with folded hands to reduce or stop the sound, the procession participants allegedly ignored her appeals.The excessive noise is said to have caused her to suddenly fall unconscious at the spot. She was immediately rushed to Patnagarh hospital and later shifted to Balangir District Headquarters Hospital after her condition deteriorated. However, doctors declared her dead.Family members alleged that doctors suspected a brain vein rupture triggered by extreme noise exposure, though official confirmation is awaited.Locals demand ban on DJ systems after woman’s death in Odisha

Following the incident, locals have strongly criticised the role of authorities, alleging lack of enforcement against illegal DJ systems and violation of sound pollution norms. Residents claimed that despite repeated complaints about high-decibel DJs during events, no strict action has been taken by police or administration.The incident has triggered tension and anger in the area, with demands for strict action against those responsible, compensation for the victim’s family, and a complete ban on DJ systems in public celebrations.Locals have termed the incident a grim reminder of unchecked noise pollution and alleged administrative negligence, which they say has now claimed an innocent life.
