Cuttack: Five suspected accused has been detained by the Cuttack Rural Police in connection with the gang rape of a young woman in the Nishchintakoili police station area on late Wednesday night. The police have also conducted a medical examination of the victim.According to sources, a woman was allegedly gang-raped by a group of at least six men after the car in which she was travelling with a friend was intercepted near the Sukarpada Post Office on the Cuttack-Chandbali road in Odisha‘s Cuttack district, said police.The incident reportedly occured while the victim was travelling from Bhubaneswar to Kendrapada with her male friend. Police said that the car in which the victim and her friend were travelling was intercepted by a group of six men between 3 am and 3:30 am. The six accused broke the car window, thrashed the man then took the woman to a nearby abandoned house where they gang-raping her.The group then reportedly fled from the scene. The victim on early on Wednesday morning reached the Nishchintakoili police station and lodged a complaint.The police have recorded the statements of the young woman and her male friend under section 180 of the BNSS. It is reported that raids are underway at various places to arrest another accused in this incident. The police have seized a bike and a Tata AC vehicle used in the incident.
